Cosplayer Review: TOKO

Heya.
I run across many awesome artists, cosplayers, prop builders, as well as other fantastic folk that I feel compelled to share.  Many of them spend countless hours crafting costumes, props, and art.  They post them on their various sites and then sweep up, observe their lessened bank accounts and go through their day only to return with some new hair-brained idea that sends them scouring the net for a new prop tutorial, or maybe a fabric they've never heard of. And the cycle continues.
Most cosplayers are filled with joy, and as a consequence are fearless in their own way. They laugh. They dream. TOKO is the epitome of this.

Living and working out of Canada, TOKO crafts cosplays focused in the Kingdom Hearts genre, from Riku, to Axel (including a Halloween Axel), Aqua from Birth by Sleep, and more.

TOKO spends most of her online time these days at Deviant Art, but you can also find her on Cosplay.com as well. I always look forward to seeing what she's up to. Whether it's a new prop she's spent hours cutting and sanding, a wig that's been getting her attention, or pics from a con or cosplay picnic, she never fails to interest, inspire, and most importantly share. I could go on about TOKO as a cosplayer and person, but my advice- go check her out yourself, and take note. Emulate. Go have a laugh. Go make something. Share who you are today- it's all you really have.
Be good to you.

Enter Roxas

Heya. I know, but I'm busy, yo. Yo. ;) The Thief Daggers are looking good, ready for a little bodywork and paint. They will experience a slight slowdown as they have a long due date, so that I can focus on the next project.

Roxas, prepare yourself. Oathkeeper begins. It's further than this as I write but I wanted to post a beginning pic before I head back out to it. There's a lot of dust as usual, and Oblivion won't be far behind. Worked out the design issues last night at my fav local art gallery. It's as quiet as libraries used to be, which makes it a great place to chill and get some work done. People were smiling and laughing because I'm sitting there jamming on the ipod, looking at reference pics on my phone, and writing in a notebook. :) I was breathing, too, folks. Multi-Tasking Master.

Big chess night downtown tonight. There will be plenty of party and profanity. I will be sitting across the board with the likes of Punk Rock John and others. All I can say is 'check' yoself.
I'm out. Be good to you.

Final Fantasy Riku Thief Dagger Progress

Sunday, August 1, 2010

Heya. Brief update. Rikku's Thief Blades coming along well- omg- fifty holes of various sizes drilled for this project. End result- run down the batteries, charge, run down the batteries, charge, etc. ad nauseum. But it's finished, and the end product will move along nicely. After that, and supremely on my mind- Organization 13 Roxas, and Oathkeeper and Oblivion. I can't wait. There will be much sawdust.

OmG, great party tonight. What would I do without you, freaks?

Be good to you.

The Iroquois Man, Huffballs, Sogeking, Riku, Roxas, and more.

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

Heya. Updating. The Iroquois man is finished. Too bad the owner wouldn't let me make him all flash, but our opinions differ, and painting it himself will make it his piece. I still say ipod, laser cannon- oh, there I go again. :)

Here are the Huffballs installed. And yes it rhymes terribly. Don't get caught up in it- it's not good for you.

Most recent finished project is a table top cut from a piece of birch and fitted to a metal frame, painted in acrylics and marker, and sealed with a clear coat. It's just like a mixed drink- add an umbrella and it's whamo!

There a few props in the mill, from Sogeking's Kabuto and mask from One Piece, to Oathkeeper and Oblivion for a Organization 13 Roxas.

But the momentary winner is Rikku's Thief Daggers from Final Fantasy X and X2.

From here it's templates and more coffee. Cream? Yes, please.
Be good to you.
