Way To Dawn two, please!

Shopblog/22.38 miles!

Heya! Here is the finished pic from the Way to Dawn for M! WAY ahead of schedule. Love it.

With M doing the final touches you don't get to see the charm and chain connected because they're masked for paint. I'm leaving it on so as to make life easier for M as well. Otherwise you're scraping paint from hardware and cursing rainbows. Ready, M? :)

The long run went well- hard, but well. Totaled out at 22.38 miles. Took five hours and some mental resolve at the end, but I did it. Four more miles to marathon length. I'll take that. So tomorrow is a regular trail running day but I intended to skip over until Tuesday, but I'm feeling pretty good today, so we'll see. I did the whole ice bath after- yow! Ten minutes of icy goodness in the tub went a long way to reducing swelling, and the heat after was gorgeous.

That's where we are. I almost hate to move on from M's project- absolute joy to work with. My thanks for choosing my work. I'm headed for the garden, trying to get a jump on Spring. The love-lies-bleeding and giant sunflowers are peeking above ground, still awaiting the tobacco and Joseph's coat amaranth. Plenty of others to go in, including cleomes, cosmos, multiple climbers and gourds, leeks, carrots, zucchini and yellow squash to cite the ones I remember! Oh yeah, and laundry, and dishes, and dinner, and loving. Be good to you.

Fiberglass Way to Dawn Progress

Thursday, April 15, 2010

Heya. WTD2 in fresh primer, bodywork comes after, and beyond a few nicks and dings, it's ready for hardware and white paint. This going to wrap at a perfect time as another project has come online that is going to take up a huge portion of my time for several weeks. Like the Great Wave the idea of it has me hunkered down in the boat, so to speak. It will be good- creating a HUGE garden.

Props have slowed for a moment for the first time in a long while. It's been back to back props. Time for a brief breath- whew! Still, many projects looming on the horizon- from murals to signs and of course, props. Custom auto- they're all out there waiting to pounce. More requests to field as well- if you've contacted me and not heard back in the last week, my apologies- I'm running like hell to keep from falling down! I'll get to you- promise. Maybe tonight- but not before I indulge in some much needed escape on the playstation. I AM Jason Bourne.

Tonight will be filled by dinner, dishes, and prepping for tomorrow- the first twenty miler. I have clean running clothes in the wash, gels and chia seed, electrolyte loaded water and the will to leap. All I can think is if I can do twenty (and I CAN), then why not 26.2? Why not indeed? And that's the spirit that has carried me forward from the time that three miles looked daunting. I pondered believable excuses as to why I wouldn't be able to run that day, but survived. So, no more than twenty tomorrow, more later. :) I can do this.

That's where we are right now. M, it's almost paint time. Be good to you.

Way to Dawn in the works!

Shopblog/15.3 miles

Heya. Here's the progression of the Way to Dawn, for M. From glass in mold, to baubles, a piece demolded, two halves cleaned up and ready for construction, to constructed and nearly ready for bodywork, which is what's going on now. Knowing all the nuances made this a carefree build. Nice. Hoping to wrap this in the next two weeks. Let's see how close I am when rubber hits road.

Upped my distance to 15.3 miles Friday. Fueling has been the issue to deal with, and the electrolyte replacement. I used a brand called Smartwater- just water, electrolytes, magnesium, and potassium. Worked pretty well, felt none of the 'knocked down' effects of previous long runs. Also used two gels, one from Clif and the other GN. The doughnut at mile 11 was welcomed, too! Thanks to Sarah and the Donut Spot!

It was difficult in the last miles- more mental than anything. If I start out with a partner who runs with me to the end I'm good. Likewise if I start out alone- got it. But the shift of doing the last miles alone seemed to mess with me, as though I had to reorient and get back to the plan- 15 miles in anticipation of 20 miles next week. Five more miles. I can do this. And doughnuts help. :) Be good to you.

Kingdom Hearts... business as usual.

Monday, April 5, 2010

Heya! Here's where we're at. Game of Death bike is on temporary hold, so WTD2 gets a bump. Prepped the molds this morning and sprayed gelcoat. The weather is perfect for this today. This afternoon it will be tacky enough to lay glass, and tomorrow I'll demold the pieces, clean and trim them up and begin to fit. Repeat the process for the three bobbles that go along with this, and construct the keyblade. Then, of course, bodywork, bodywork, bodywork, as usual. No paint for this one, so after primer and bodywork we'll finish up with a nice coat of white so that M can bring her own special touch to the project. I'll make S's keychain emblem at the same time, and when his ps3 playing self has a moment of boredom and remembers- I'll be ready.

Ah, what else? Neighbors next door are moving out. Boo. They've been nice, quiet people who kept the place up and minded their own business. On to better things for them. Luck to them.

Garden is swelling with spring, and the trails are abloom with at least a dozen wildflowers from Dutchman's Britches to Virginia Bluebells, Marsh Marigolds and Trout Lilies, Red Trillium, Rue, Spring Beauties, Mayapples, Cut-leafed Toothwort, and others which escape my memory now. Yesterday's run was mostly great! The weather was beautiful. Ran for three hours and broke my trail distance pr by 3.4 miles for a total of 13.45 on trail! Distance is increasing, and I am finding that the real issue is how to fuel myself on these longer runs. Have to become friends with Gatorade or something of the sort- preferably something NOT loaded with sugars as well. Just give me back my electrolytes so I can stop munching on muscle tissue. Otherwise, I come home and have a mild headache, then crash for hours before feeling good again. Must- fuel.

Anything else? Dishes to do, kid's schoolwork to check, seeds to plant, WTD2. I'm rambling. :) It's your day- kick ass.
